Earlier this year, I covered information about Genie and Genie Plus being available at Walt Disney World Resort. You can find that article posted here.

As of last Wednesday, Genie and Genis Plus is now available at DIsneyland Resort.

The Basics

To keep this short and sweet, Genie is replacing the former Fastpass and Maxpass service and is integrated into the official DIsneyland App.

There are two versions of the Genie service. The basic level is free and allows you to see wait times, make itineraries, and receive suggestions for what you may want to see.

The paid version grants access to the Lightning Lane, which is an expedited experience on an attraction…the old Fastpass lane. Where the Fastpass service was free, Genie Plus and Lightning Lane services are not.

Not all attractions are included in the Lightning Lane and must be purchased for an additional fee. These are call Individual lightning lanes.

The Cost

Guests will be charged $20 per ticket per day for the service for access to unlimited photo downloads and Lightning Lane Access. There are some attractions not included that cost an additional fee ranging from $7 to $20. It is based on a sliding scale and depends how busy the park is.

Can Magic Key Passholders be able to purchase Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane access at Disneyland?

Magic Keyholders are able to purchase Lightning Lane or add Genie+ on a per-day basis, just like regular theme park ticket holders.

At launch, there will not be a yearly add-on option for Genie+ for Disneyland Resort Magic Key Passholders. That seems likely to come at some point in the not-too-distant future, though.

Wrapping Up

All of this is brand new to Disneyland. There will certainly be changes coming as it has been only a few days, but I hope this guide will help you begin to understand how it works so far. Keep in mind Disneyland will be switching over to magic bands beginning next year. This technology will be able to integrate much easier to it.
