What is Genie Service?
In a nutshell, Genie plus is the newer, updated version of the former Disneyland and Disneyworld apps. It has the ability to check attraction wait times, make dining reservations, holds your tickets, and is linked to Disney’s Photo pass service.
The app is intended to offer a more “personalized” experience to its users.
Guests will now have the ability to make itineraries and be offered recommendations as to what they might want to do/enjoy at the theme parks.
The Genie service itself is free.
What Is Genie Plus?
Disney Parks has been considering the question of Fast Passes for some time now. Would guests be willing to pay to use the service? The short answer is yes. Guests at Disneyland or Disney World are indeed willing to pay.
Hence the arrival of Genie Plus and the Lightning Lane.
In Disneyland, guests will be charged $20 per ticket per day for the service, and at Disney World it will be $15 per ticket per day.
Genie Plus allows for guests to select an attraction and return time they would like to use the new lightning lane entrance to. Only one pass may be held at a time.
Unlimited Photo Pass downloads are included.
But Wait, There Is More
The only caveat here is that not all attractions are included. The more popular attractions (ie: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at WDW and Radiator Springs Racers at Disneyland) are not included in the Genie Plus. They will be available for individual purchase. Meaning you will have to pay on top of what you have already paid in order to use the Lighting Lane.
Prices will fluctuate based on demand.
What About Stand By?
Disney Parks is assuring its guests that stand by queue options will still exist. If an attraction has a virtual queue, like Star Wars Rise of the Resistance, than that will also still be available for free.
When Will This Service Launch?
At Disney World it will launch October 19. There is no date for Disneyland as of yet.
