Disneyland Announces Opening Date for Star Wars Land

It’s official! Disneyland announced today that Star Wars Land: Galaxy’s Edge will open to the public on May 31! WDW will have a later opening of August 29! Now before you decide to be there on opening day, there is some important information for you to know!

Reservations Required!

Reservations are required! The new land will hit capacity when it opens. It’s not a question of when or if, it will. Disneyland announced that “no-cost” reservations will be required in order to see the latest addition to the theme park if you are visiting between May 31 and June 23. Before I get in further, these reservations will be “subject to availability”. If you have a reservation and the land hits capacity, you are not guaranteed entry.

How do you get a reservation? Details have not been confirmed, but if you are staying at one of the 3 Disneyland Resort Hotel properties: Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel or the Paradise Pier hotel, you are supposed to receive an e-mail with details about obtaining reservations. It appears it will be limited to one per registered hotel guest. This may be your best chance of getting in!

Reservations will be available to the public most likely closer to the land opening. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would only come out morning of the land opening. My best guess is that reservations will be made through the Disneyland app. I would venture a guess that Disneyland Resort Hotel guests will have a certain number of reservations open to them and a certain number open to the public.

The Land Opens in Phases

Of the two attractions, only one will be opening on May 31, that is Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. The second attraction, Rise of the Resistance, will likely open in July or August. The restaurants and shops are expected to open on May 31, but you probably won’t be able to get your hands on much. I expect strict limits on what you are able to but being enforced. You can expect lines for everything so be prepared!

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
